Hot Tub FAQ

...But the other Hot Tub I’m looking at has 100 jets
>
Quality trumps quantity when it comes to hot tub jets. Imagine two buckets: one with two well-placed holes, the other riddled with twenty. Water would flow from the first bucket with a strong, consistent stream. The second bucket, despite having more holes, would leak weakly from each one.

This applies to hot tubs too. A powerful pump divided amongst a hundred hot tub jets weakens the individual impact. Far fewer, strategically placed, powerful jets deliver a more effective massage than a multitude of weak ones. Focus on quality and placement, not just the number of jets, for a truly relaxing experience.
How to turn off smart winter mode on a Hydropool Hot Tub?
>

Don't worry about that snowflake symbol on your Hydropool hot tub control panel! It just means Hydropool Smart Winter Mode is activated. This clever feature detects cold water and automatically turns on the pump(s) for two minutes every two hours. This circulation prevents the water in your pipes from freezing, protecting your hot tub during colder weather.

Smart Winter Mode is active often after refilling your spa with cold water or if it's been off for a while. Once the water temperature reaches a safe level, Smart Winter Mode automatically deactivates, and your hot tub returns to normal operation.

This feature will turn off automatically when the water level reaches a safe level or temperature.

How to tell if my Hot Tub is leaking?
>

To find a hot tub leak, you will need to do a test to confirm. Fill your spa to the maximum level, run the spa for 24 hours, and measure any water loss. Then refill your spa, switch it off for 24 hours, and measure any water loss again. You may need a service call out if you want to fix your hot tub leak.

Why is my Hot Tub water orange?
>

Orange scum in a hot tub could be from skin oils or self-tanner. You may even find in your hot tub orange slime. We recommend going into your hot tub after a shower rinse, or with no product on the skin. Dense foam and scum lines in hot tubs are almost always caused by detergents, skin products, or natural oils from the skin. Products like foam away can help with these issues.

If your hot tub water is orange, correct all chemistry readings (Chlorine, PH, Alkalinity) and allow time for the water to turn over 100% at least twice. If this does not make a significant improvement then you may need to explore our blogs on maintenance. Whether it’s iron in the water or a self-tan problem, Orange Water In Your Hot Tub: Understanding The Most Common Causes, should help solve the issue.

What is the difference between a Hydropool Self-Cleaning Hot Tub and Hydropool Serenity Hot Tub?
>

Our Hydropool Serenity range still includes our build quality and market-leading insulation with the Hydropool 10-year comprehensive manufacturer guarantee, great for recreational use.

Our self cleaning hot tubs are more ergonomically designed. Working with medical experts, we have designed a product to enhance the overall hot tub experience. Our self-cleaning hot tubs work like commercial-based filtration. The bather is not exposed to the same body of water as the filters. The top-side skimmer filter and built-in floor vacuum remove debris. The whole body of water is filtered every 15 minutes. This dramatically decreases your chemical input (compared with a regular hot tub) and reduces the requirement for general maintenance, so you are able to spend more time enjoying your hot tub and less in maintaining it.

What’s the difference between Gold and Platinum hot tub models?
>

Gold hot tub models have less jets overall but enable fewer people to maximise the power with topside diverters,  more suited to people who will use fewer of the hot tub seats majority of the time but still have the capacity for more people for the rare occasions they occur.

Platinum hot tub models have more power and jets will be more focused for customers with aches and pains or those who plan for the hot tub to be at greater capacity majority of the time.

Hydropool Gold Model hot tubs are a lower price point than Hydropool Platinum Model hot tubs!

What warranty comes with my Hot Tub or Swim Spa?
>

The Hydropool hot tub warranty and Hydropool swim spa warranty are both no quibble guaranteed – 10 years on structure (cabinet and frame), 5 years on shell, 3 years on components. On average other brands have a hot tub warranty that covers 3 years or less and a swim spa warranty that covers 3 years or less.

But other companies say they have ‘Self Cleaning’ Hot Tubs?
>

Hydropool is the only manufacturer in the world with a built-in floor vacuum system – If a hot tub doesn’t have a track of inlets on the floor or a triangular floor plate it is NOT a self cleaning hot tub. We also hold the patent and copyright for the Self-Cleaning System.

What are the running costs of a Hot Tub?
>

There are many variables which can affect hot tub running costs, such as the outdoor temperature, how frequently the hot tub is used and how often the cover is off. Luckily, Hydropool has spent a lot of time on research and development in making energy efficient hot tubs, they contain as much insulation as possible, so minimal heat is wasted. Check out our Energy Efficiency Guide for more information including actual price breakdowns.

What is the optimum temperature for a hot tub?
>

The optimum hot tub temperature is 37 ℃ / 100 ℉ – just a hair above normal body temperature. Hydropool hot tubs can be set anywhere between 15 ℃  and 40 ℃. Any hot tub that can be set over 40 ℃ is not CE approved.

What do I need to know about choosing where to place my Hot Tub or Swim Spa?
>

If your hot tub will be placed outside: Don’t place it in a low area that may get flooded during a heavy storm. Don’t put it in or around any sand. If sand gets into the hot tub it can cause serious damage. Make sure that the surface is firm and level, preferably on a flat, concrete slab. If you are planning to have a hot tub installed on a patio or deck, have a structural engineer inspect the deck to ensure it can support the weight of the hot tub filled with water and people. An average four person hot tub weighs between 2.5 – 5 tons when full. We will conduct a site visit to assess the safety and access to install the hot tub, but we are not responsible for choosing the best location or safety of structure supports.

Can I use a Hot Tub if my skin is sensitive to chemicals?
>

Hydropool hot tubs and swim spas require significantly less sanitiser compared to public pools. This translates to a gentler experience on your skin, perfect for those with skin sensitivities.

We understand chlorine sensitivity can be a concern. That's why Hydropool offers bromine as a sanitising alternative. Bromine provides effective sanitation while being milder on skin and eyes.

Experience the soothing comfort of a Hydropool hot tub or swim spa, all while enjoying a gentler sanitising approach.

What power supply is needed and who is responsible for providing power from the house?
>

The amperage of the power supply needed will vary between hot tub models. Usually you will need either a 20Amp or 32Amp supply.

This must be fitted by a qualified electrician prior to installation of your hot tub. If you do not have an electrician, we can recommend one to you.

Are all Hydropool jets the same?
>

No, Hydropool Hot Tub Jets are individually suited to the hydrotherapy massage zones! The type of jet is crucial to achieving an effective hydro-massage. Our P-Class Jets are designed purposely for a deep tissue massage, while our L-Class Jets are designed for a gentler massage.

Are all Hydropool seats the same?
>

Hydropool prides itself on having deep seating, submerging your whole body in warm water - but it is also multi-level, so there’s always a seat to suit you, no matter your height. Whether it’s the large “Captains Seat”, featuring six-large back jets, shoulder jets and foot massage, or the Lounger with 12 back and calf jets, foot jets, and blower jets. Each seat has a specific configuration of jets to target certain muscle groups, covering a wide range of Hydrotherapy massages available. The Hydropool range of hot tubs also offer Lounger or All Seater models, so you can choose the seating layout that suits you best.

How do I best prepare to receive my new Hot Tub?
>

On purchase of a hot tub we will provide you with full details of the preparation needed for your installation date, but here are the basics:

  • Ensure you have a solid, level, standing, able to withstand the weight of your hot tub, while full, plus users. This can be a concrete pad, flagstones, decking, etc.

  • Ensure your electrical installation has been fitted to the necessary requirements, ready to be wired in on the day.

  • Ensure clear access to and around the installation site.

  • We’ll also need access to a standard plug socket, and a working hosepipe to fill your hot tub.

What happens if something in my Hot Tub breaks?
>

Hydropool hot tubs are covered by warranty on the day of installation. If you have any issues, you can just drop an email or give us a call. We can provide guidance on trying to troubleshoot issues, or figure out the problem over the phone, and if needed can send a technician out to you to diagnose, repair, or replace whatever the part may be.

Should I use chlorine or bromine?
>

We recommend all of our customers use Bromine to sanitise their spa. Bromine is a little gentler on your skin, and in the long term your hot tub.

There may be cases where we will recommend Chlorine instead of Bromine, depending on the water in your area.

Do you have a salt water system option?
>

Hydropool moved away from salt-water systems in 2018, opting for the far more effective and easier to maintain Pure Water System, which uses a combination of UV and Ozone to sanitise the water, reducing the sanitising chemicals needed by up to 50%.

How do we prevent children or animals from getting into the tub?
>

All hydropool hot tubs come with a locking hardcover. Each cover features four lockable straps, which clip on to the cabinet of the hot tub. Should you want extra security, additional cover-safe straps can be purchased.

>
